"Early Australioan Voyages"

The voyages covered include those of Francis Pelsart in 1628-1629, Abel Tasman in 1642-1643 (refer to the map below) and William Dampier in 1699-1700.

The etext was prepared from the edition published in 1886 and includes an introduction containing a brief biography of the author and an opinion of Australia and its people at the time of publication.

The story of Pelsart's voyage was translated from the original Dutch by Thevenot. The account of Tasman's voyage was taken from his original Journal. Dampier's own observations during his voyage are also included.
